Our comprehensive eye examinations can include OCT, Cellview and Visual Fields testing to help detect eye disease, monitor change, and support clearer clinical advice where needed.

OCT

OCT gives a detailed scan of the retina and optic nerve, helping us detect subtle structural change earlier and monitor eye health more closely over time.
It is fast, non-contact, and useful when checking for conditions such as glaucoma, macular change, and other retinal concerns.

Cellview

Cellview provides enhanced imaging of the front surface of the eye so we can look in more detail at the cornea, lids, and tear film.
It is particularly useful when assessing dry eye symptoms, irritation, and contact lens comfort, and helps us explain findings more clearly during your appointment.

Detailed front-of-eye imaging supports more informed treatment advice and follow-up where needed.

Visual Fields

Visual field testing checks how well you see across your full field of vision, not only what is directly in front of you.

It is commonly used when assessing glaucoma risk, monitoring change over time, and investigating unexplained visual symptoms.

How much does an eye test cost?

An eye test costs £25* in Optical World. You may be entitled to a Free NHS eye test*. Just ask in-store for details or find out more.

We recommend having an eye test or contact lens check every two years, in line with NHS guidance for adults over 16. However, your optician may advise more frequent visits based on your individual needs.
Noticed any recent changes to your vision? It’s best to book an appointment as soon as possible.
You might be eligible for a Free NHS eye test, depending on your age, health, or circumstances. This includes children, students, over-60s, and those with certain medical conditions or benefits.
An eye test checks your overall vision and eye health. It looks for changes in your prescription and screens for conditions like glaucoma or cataracts. Most people should have one every two years or more often if recommended.

A contact lens check-up is just for lens wearers. It focuses on lens fit, eye surface health, and how your eyes are responding to the lenses. We’ll also check if your prescription or lens type needs adjusting.

If you wear contact lenses, you’ll need both tests to keep your vision clear and your eyes healthy.
